I saw that JDX8 and was eyeballing that seat thinking there aren't many seats like that one that are still intact. It was nice.

There were a few JDX8 and a couple JDX 4. There were so many sleds there, I'm sure I didn't see all the JD. Show date will be the last weekend in January. Check out the AmericInn in Waconia, but better make reservations soon.

Yes John Deere is next years feature sled, so everyone mark your calendar :D I had the chance to talk with Jesse & Duane. Was nice to chat with them. It was my first year & I"ll be heading back next year for sure  We stayed at the AmericInn in Chanhassen, which was about 12 miles from Waconia. Nice place & right on Hwy. 5 which takes you right where you need to be.
My wife & I had a great time at the show & are really looking forward to next year. Although I've got lots of work to do if I plan on taking some of my JD's.

:beers; BOTTOMS UP!!

I saw a few of you but did not know who you were, does that make sense?

I stopped and got off my sled to look at the 295S I saw with the console removed, nobody was around the trailer and I was telling my friend that it was a factory race sled.

I also talked to someone with an older 300 (JD green not Mean Green like mine) and I was sharing my carburettor woes with them, they said their 300 was doggy on the bottom especially as it was warm- was that any one of you guys? I know I saw some of Bottoms up's Diablos out there, they looked nice! Always wanted to try one.

The trail ride was really nice, though I think it was hard on the older free air hi po sleds, I saw a couple like megaphone free air Panthers out there and wonder how they did.

As far as my 300, it ran a little better after the carb go thru-

"I may not be a mechanic, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night"

I was in the Chanhassen hotel too Bottomsupduckclub.

NOw you can get my 300 to start without having to take out the plugs and spray gas down the holes and put them back in quick. Saturday it would run "ok" at 1/2 to 7/8 choke- and top out about 35mph. Doggy on the bottom. That is when my friend tore into it, I was out and about on my Olympique and I come back to the rig to find him with all the consloe and all torn off, "I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!" he said. Now it will at least start without ether, you still have to nurse it off idle with the choke and once it's above 20mph or so you can take the choke off. Low speed screw has little to no effect, it will however idle forever for you. Once you get the RPM's up it flat out hauls some ass for a 295cc fan cooled single carb sled- my bud is about 225# and this is what he got out of it on GPS-

54mph- not bad, as I was told 50 was about tops for it- then I am about 185-190 in full riding gear, and I wound it out good-

Maybe I just had the balls to stay in 'er longer? There was one fairly flat stretch without drifts like a road from the parking area on the ice towards the restaraunt/bar on the lake, otherwise it was hard to find a flat stretch that would not kill ya. The 300 rides pretty good for a leaf spring sled, my Oly has ten times better low end torque which may change once the carb is right on the 300, the JD is more stable and turns better on hardpack, the JD isn't as good as far as I could tell in deep snow or in the woods like I enjoy torturing them. And if your upper ski leg bushings disintigrate, some slit heater hose slid down inside the spindle makes it all good. :beers;

I will leave tomorrow to return to the snowless south, the JD was taken home by my friend who says he wants to get the thing to run right, I told him to have at 'er as it will just sit with the gas drained in dad's shed and I may not make it back to ride next year. This trip will probably cost me a week at Disney or something like that!

Here is a pic of my two sleds overlooking the parking lot-

And the ride home, the "Roto Ski", a '71 Capri missing it's 338 HIrth with a '66 10.5 horse Rotax transplant, cost me $25 and I could not walk from it. The trailer is a sizzor lift trailer borrowed from my friend's workplace, it hydraulicly lays flat, made it easy to load I tell ya.

Pretty sure I talked to ya EricR, out on the ice. I was helping a friend load up on sunday afternoon. You picked a hat up that was on the ice & were going to turn it in. You also showed me the GPS that displayed 58 mph.
Did I meet you? I'm thinking yes. You should have hoped on the Diablo & taken her for a spin. Not 1 person all weekend asked if they could take it for a ride

Bottoms up- yes, that would have been you, your friend had the JD300 with like 300 original miles? I had all the plastic crap off my 300 all weekend, makes for easier Walbro access due to the Walbro Blues, plus the loss of wieght and aerodynamic drag of the windshield makes for speed. :)

Hey ericR. My friends sled was in the winners circle up next to the ballroom, since he won a trophy last year with it. It's a super nice sled for sure. It's hard to meet people, one almost has to make a cardboard billboard to strap on his back with his user name on it so people know who you are.

Met lots of Deere guys at the show. I had oppurtunities to ride lots of different Deere sleds. Just did a little trading rides at the trail ride and show. Rode JDX8, Sprintfire, Sportfire, 80 Liquifire, JD 300, Cyclone. No names were traded as none was needed.
Thanks to everybody that put up with me. See ya next year.

sknowcat, if you're planning on coming to the Horicon JD get together you're more than welcome to take it for a spin no problem. I'm thinking about getting some of my jd's out to show, but the Diablo is always ready to go

JD Horicon Works (The Birth place) is in the background of the duck club. You can almost see it in one of the jd sleds group photo. I've returned several sleds to the birthplace in the last several years
