Rod,
I'll have to take your word on the 6 volt system and I wasn't sure if this engine uses the same color wires to the external coils as JD.

I am puzzeled by your claim about the 440/21 being 6 volt.
Every sled Deere built uses a GE 1157 12 volt bulb for a tail light as far as I know.
Could you elaborate on this?

Hey Brian if you go way back to the 1st post its a ccw engine from a jac trac not a deere. I know that ccws came in alot of things besides deere so I guess thats where Rod came up with the 6volt thing. I never realised that it could have had that either but he is usally pretty dead on with his info so lets see what he comes back with.

the raiders used a 6 voilt system and had blue wires for lighting coil thats where i got that from..

the spark wires are red and white on them the only ones i have seen that are not red and white are usually somebodys hack at the coil wires.

among other wiring i have seen to date on snowmobiles... speaker wiring, telephone wiring, household nmd 14 guage wiring, extension cords, and of course bailing/mechanics wire.

have fun tada the leaves are falling should see that clean white stuff soon.. sigh now if i only had room to put the sleds back in garage. sigh... oh well i might get a portable garage frame and cover it with canvas.

i checked the bulbs last night, the headlight looks original. on the bulb it says 45 watt 12v. bulb is good.

the side lights and the tailight are all little instrument (incadesent) type lights. they got a number on the side (G or W 1895). i went on to grainger and looked that bulb up. that bulb says it's a 14 volt , .27amp automotive / truck marker. all three bulbs are burnt out.

at this point, i'm skipping the lights. i got spark and i poured a little gas into the cylinders and she fired up. so i know she'll run. i am just going to keep working on it and check the lights later when i got it running.

i think she'll need the carb rebuilt because the guy that gave it to me said the engine would keep stalling.

thanks again for all the help. i might need more help later, but for now i'll take the advice i got and keep plugging along.

thanks again,

Kuby
