Rats, I forgot to add rebuilding Cari's Sprintfire to the list of projects. Might need to send that one to Tx, or "hire" Tim and Nick again!

Re: What's everyone's summer sled project?
I will be hopefully finishing up my 83 sportfire resto, that was started nov 2011 and maybe trying to get back on the 84 trailfire ! Most importly getting some of these parts organized and tagged. Possibly moving them out of my wifes sunroom and into my basement gameroom ! Seems that no matter where they get moved to she has something to gripe about.
To many projects so little time !

Re: What's everyone's summer sled project?
Could this be the summer I quit bringing home more projects and or parts for projects and actually finish one...... I doubt it.
Actully I have every thing I need to finish my 295/S. I want to pull the crank and send it to Jerome to have checked over. Other than that, the tunnel is ready for paint and things can start going back to gether.

Old sleds are hours of entertainment.... then you get to ride them for a little bit.

1980 Trailfire 340, My first JD restoration. I'm usually a Kawasaki guy but always liked the JD Fire series. Time to teach this Old Dog some New Tricks. ( I know, it has a 79 hood ).

Re-install my re-cranksealed engine into my 473 mile 80 LF and get it all good to go for hopefully a real winter come this fall. I put on over 800 miles on my 80 TF for a total now of over 3300 miles and am considering yanking the engine to do the crankseals and gaskets, fan belt etc? Its running well, should i not bother? Don't fix whatz not broke kinda thing?

Re: What's everyone's summer sled project?
LV,
I suggest you pull the crank and do all three crank seals. The inner and outer PTO seals hold up pretty well due to the oil bath in the gear case, but the mag side is prone to failure epsically if they are the original 32 year old seals. Unfortunately you have to do a full tear down due to the inner seal. I would lap the heads and jugs before re-assembly too.
I hope this helps,

Re: What's everyone's summer sled project?
My plans for this summer:
Trailer needs a little TLC
Freshen up the 80 LF I've had the longest (mechanically sound just needs cosmetic things to be presentable at shows)
Maybe start 80LF # 3 if time and the wife allows

Re: What's everyone's summer sled project?
Staring out into my cleared area today with the snow slowly melting I figured it was time to do a head count. Not a good idea. I hope to get the collection back down to under 100. So on average if I paid $100 a sled that means I have $10,000 into heavy big mostly inanimate objects, all begging to take a bite out of my bottom line. I remember the good old days when I was trying to keep it under 50. One of my sleds even belonged to Mike Hudziak for awhile. There are still some sleds out there that I would like to own. I have got leads on 5 of them. Whats a boy to do?

According to my medical dictionary
Hjording- More widely known as "The Gatherers Fever". Or some sort of disease collectors acquire. Allthough afflicting many nationalities I belive it to be more common to Norwegians.

Re: What's everyone's summer sled project?
Phase 1 of the summer sled project completed today.
Get all sleds out and cleaned, and then put back away for the summer.
Pops is doing some clean-up on the CC and 340/S, then off to a little museum for summer viewing and storage.
My 84 LF clean-up and 340/S project to start soon. Plus I forgot that I traded a 78 Cyclone resto for DJ services this summer for my daughters wedding.
Here is a couple of pics of the sleds outside in the sunshine. 2 of mine, 2 of Dads, and 2 of Seans.

Re: What's everyone's summer sled project?
My 84 Sportfire project wraps up this weekend. I then plan on Stuffing this Formula Z into this Liquifire for a summer project. Motor, pipe, chain case, track and suspension etc. ... and make the front end 4" wider.
This is going to be a fun project!

No offense intended Joe, but is that an '84 LF you plan to mod? Plenty of '83's out there IMO.
