Oh really? Nothing on the outside? I still need to take this driveshaft to someone with press because the drivers won't budge for me.

They should have 3 sets of drive lugs, my 600 drives on the whole center ser and the inside row of the outer 2 sets. I belive the smaller ones just drive on the outer 2 sets of drive lugs in the track if that makes any sense.

Slow progress. A few weeks ago I got a cheap body work hammer kit and straitened out the belly pan as best as I could (or that I had the patience for).

Today I got the driveshaft done. Big thanks to Harleysporster who sent me a driveshaft with the drivers already freed up and the shaft cleaned. I couldn't get the drivers to budge of my driveshaft and I was just going to end up breaking them.

Mocked up the track, shaft, and drivers, marked the driver position, removed it, center-punched the hole position, drilled the new holes, installed drivers, and done. I don't remember if I mentioned this before but it turned out that this track has the same drive pitch as the original cleat track, but the polaris drivers that were with the track were much bigger and were going to push the track against the heat exchanger. Also, the Polaris drivehaft was longer and was going to require either modification or some spacers somewhere. So the Deere driveshaft/drivers moved in made the most sense.

Also, you can see Don Amber's bearing flagettes with the welded nuts there. Those are the best things since sliced bread!

Trying to get those old paddle cogs to move on those shafts almost seems impossible without ruining them! So do you know exactly what driveshaft Pat sent you that works with that Indy Track?

I sent him a spare 76 Liquifire driveshaft that was not rusted over badly. I had loosened up the drive wheels years ago. I had to cut off the center idler retainer collars to remove the center idler.

Matt,
I am not sure how well the round shaft will like having holes drilled closer to the center, but it might be OK. I do have 2.52 hex shaft sprockets that were for the 78 LF 440 update. They would fit a Trailfire hex shaft, but you would again need to drill new holes or make spacers. Holler if you need a set...

Good luck with the sled!

I decided to tape off the decals and paint the tunnel and pan. I didn't put much prep work into it but it came out pretty good. Also de-studded the track today (it was studded for a 650 triple w/ pipes). I've got all the parts needed to rebuild the Polaris suspension lined up. I found a crack in the original chaincase, so I've got a roller 80 Liquifire chaincase to go in from JDRob. Rob also sent a set of handlebar controls for it from a Trailfire, as I didn't want to use up a set of hard-to-find '78 controls since it's a trail rider.

Good choice on the controls Matt, later stuff is much easier to find. My CC and the CC I'm working on will have updated kill/dimmer and blocks.

The paint turned out pretty decent. It will be neat to see complete.

Obviously I haven't updated this in a while but I didn't have much to report. I hit it hard the past couple days though. A while back, I had tore the engine down and found that the cylinder, head, and pistons were all badly damaged. I got a good cylinder/head from Jon Shavemaker from NY, and got NOS Kioritz pistons. I believe it was just last weekend that I put the engine back together, and finished it up yesterday. By the end of the day the engine was sitting in the chassis. I spent most of the day today working around the engine on hoses, carbs, mounting, and started working on clutches.

The suspension is pretty much done except for the one spring over shock which I just need to install and get it under the sled.

Oh yea, it also got upgraded to 80+ Liquifire roller chaincase & brake thanks to JDRob. I would have run the original chaincase but it must have taken a hard hit on the bottom at some point and was cracked and repaired with JBWeld.
