JDT wrote:Correct me if I am wrong but I think that the T-type Regal did not have an intercooler and only ran 15 lbs boost before the wastegate opened.
GN topped out at 25 lbs?

And the GNX had twins? with 32 lbs boost.
Same engine as the 20th Anniversery TA which was like the fastest car GM ever made.
Hi JDT,

Going from memory, here is what I can tell you about Turbo Regals:
79-83: Single turbo, draw through carborator, up to 190 HP by 83.
84-85 GN and T-types: Single turbo, mounted on back of intake, crank trigger ignition, seqenial EFI, 10 to 12 PSI, no intercooler. Rated for 200 hp
86-87 GN, Types, any 87 Regal Turbo: Single turbo, 15 PSI boost, intercooler added. Rated for 235 in 86, 247 hp in 87 wiht no changes. (yup, someone lied to platform, LOL!)
87 GNX: 547 built, single turbo with a ceramic impeller. Better intercooler, 'about' 300 hp (280 comes to mind?) Not sure of boost levels.
89 20th Anniv. Turbo T/A: Basically a 3.8 GN motor with 3.0 L V-6 head to better fit the F-body. GNX intercooler, about 250 ish hp. I think only 1,500 built.

I hope this helps!

I used to have a Buick LeSabre with the 3.8 turbo mill. As it was a heavier car than the Regal it was kind of a pouch but it did sound sweet when she spooled up.

I know a guy that is a GM mechanic that bought all the OEM parts to convert his GN to an X. It was dynoed at 455 HP just before the wastegate opened. I think GM was still fibbing on HP as they did in the 70's.

I read in some car magazine back in the early 80's that the 20th TA was actually good for 500 hp. I believe it as I have never driven anything that fast!

Now is the FBI story true or urban legend Joe?

The TA's had no options other than wheather you wanted the decals installed on the door or in the trunk still in the wrapper.

the factory hp rating was always rated lower for the insurance co. they rated the l-88 corrvette at 435hp.old neigbor where i used to live had a 67 vette 427 l-88 factory rated it at 435 i think it was more like 550 cause he raced it it ran in the upper 10s with little mods.

As a former Chevrolet dealer ( Dad started the business in 1955 and I bought him out in 1970) I had quite an advantage when it came to driving cars. I was very lucky to have come from the "muscle car era". I can't list every muscle car that I drove for a demonstrator but I'll post a picture of my 1967 Camaro SS 396 / Muncie Rock Crusher 4 speed. Maybe sometime I'll post pictures of some of my other cars, unfortunately I did not take pictures of the majority of them. Oh, yes that is the mobile home that Patty and I first lived in from 65 to 69. Payments were $64.00 per month with a lot rent of $20.00. We still had to sell a lot of cars to make the payments LOL.
