Jesse, nice job on that one! Let us know when you find out who's it was. I'm sure it won't take you long.
The guy in the video: from what he was saying, I'm guessing that's Tabor?

Yep that's our own SKNOWCAT. What a knowledgeable guy! Jesse that's a great find, can I guess that you honed in on the juice brake? That would have been the big tipoff to me that someone's modified the sled.

Re: Princeton Show?
Hey guy, Thanks for all the kind words. Here are list some of the factory changes on the sled. This sled will not be restored. It will be cleaned up and the ETD logo and Racer/Mech name added to the hood. This is a true almost untouch piece of Deere race history. If you want to see it in person plan on being at Waconia.
Dator seat
Lite skid
Dator skis
Dator clutch guard
Steel tie rod
Juice brake
CC bars
Cut hand grips to add black rubber ones
No tach
No dimmer switch (cut off)
hand warmers
Y pipe has the ball joint reinforcement like the 78 cc Y pipe (it is not a 78 detuned Y pipe)
tether in choke hole
hand warmer switch in light switch hole
rubber strap over gas tank
lots of welding under hood
vented chain case
duct tape to keep gas tank tight
riveted seat (not snapped)
rivets in belly pan sides to hold stirrups
holes for license plate
New wiring, not a harness
Front bumper is set up to hang sled in the team trailer

Re: Princeton Show?
I think it is Jon's or Craig's. Jon has pictures of his and he says it matchs real well. He also know he ran without a tach. I left a message for Jerome, he might be able to give some details.
The rivitets and plate are dead on to the picture in race and rally of Craigs sled. There is a few things that Joel (his mech) told me about that are on the sled. Not sure if every sled had this or not. I talked with Craig last night he told me that in 78 a guy offered him his 77 race sled back if he would come drive for him on a 78 CC. Don't know how this guy would have ended up with it. Maybe this is how it was saved from the crusher. I have some more digging to do on both.
Doug O says he is almost sure he did not build it. And the one picture I have of Willie's sled may have some differences.
The forth mech. is going to look at it this weekend.
The funny thing about this is last night I get a voice mail from a guy I know well.It said, " I hear you found a rare sled at Princeton, you bought it from my neighbor, I looked at it on Thursday night. He offered it to me but I have to many projects." I will have to do some checking to see where it came from. When I bought the guy told me he got it from the man who bought it new. I know the was not true right away.

Re: Princeton Show?
No doubt Jesse scored the Deere sled find of the year! Amazing that a real live ETD sled showed up at Princeton for sale. I was glad to see it go to a hardcore I-500 sled collector like Jesse.
Here are a few pic's I took of Jesse and Sidekick Nick checking out his new find...

Re: Princeton Show?
Jesse,
I just got off the phone with Jerome. He told me some of the things he did on the '77s and it seemed to match the build of the sled. He also said that he thought all of those sleds went back to Deere to get the good parts pulled off before they got the big crush. MY thought is that who better to save a sled from the crusher than the son of a Deere VP. Jerome is really excited and looks forward to talking with you. It sounds like Jerome did more than one of these, so you may be able to safely say that he was the mechanic. The way it sounds is that this may be the only '77 ETD Liquifire to have been saved. I'm still salivating over that sled.....and the venison sausage. For those that didn't see it in person; it's survived the years almost unharmed. Pictures don't do it justice.
I also pulled that clutch cover you need out from storage. The used one is nicer than the NOS one. The NOS got a nice crack in it sometime during my move to the shop. Let me know if you need pics. I'll toss it in the truck for the trip to Haydays.

Re: Princeton Show?
Hi Guys,
I guess it's time to post a few of my Princeton pic's. Thank you to Steve Tabor for teaching me how to spell both "Princeton" and "Tabor" correctly.
The NY Posse was fortunate to visit with many jdsleds board members, and I appologize if I miss or forgot anyones name. First up was Jerry (Cabindweller) and James (AMG) posing with Sidekick Nick and I at my trailer. Second pic is Jack Durrand before anyone cheap a$$ swappers got mouthy with him.
More to come...

Re: Princeton Show?
Here are a few more pic's.
First up is Tabor and Doug Oster. Steve was an ETD mechanic in 77, and built sleds in 78 for Doug Hough (sp?) I believe. Doug wrenched for ETD and raced from 76-78 before going to Team Arctic in 79. Tabor was Dougs mechanic at Cat too. The stories these guys have is just amazing.
Second pic is Doug's 09 Cat Cross Country racer. Yup, Doug ran the I-500 in 08 and 09!
Last pic is Doug taking me to school on I-500 mods done to 78 CC Liquifire's

Princeton Show!
I also ran into Wade Hiens, son of the Comandant of the Evil Heins Clan (Kenny). I introduced him to Doug Oster, who knew Kenny from back in the day.
Larry Preston of VS stopped by and was digging the Dator. I think the "Green Side" is calling Larry...he said the Dator felt good to sit on, so I didn't want to ruin it by telling him to try to pick up the front end!
I know I ran into JDT at Jesse's display, along with Bill Tasky. BS'ed and swapped part with Jim and Steve Tradup too. Wycrumb stopped by my trailer and checked out some parts.
I sold some NOS parts and a reproduction Dator hood to 3 Deere collectors, and said hello to a bunch more board members. It was great to meet everyone, and we had a great time to boot!
Later Liquidator,

Re: Princeton Show?
Gee, Larry looks half way normal sitting on the Dator. It's a good look for him, I'd suggest he go with it.
Don't fight it Larry, you'd feel alot better if you ditched those Polarass things.
