Re: in the market for dator pistons

Hi Guys,

I have purchased a set of Dator pistons from Larry in the past, and was greatful he made the investment to get them done to the benifit of all Dator collectors. As noted, when reproducting parts, the guy that foots the tooling bill only has rights to that part made by that vendor. For example, any of you guys could take an NOS Dator lite hood to a different mold maker and start selling Dator hoods. But, I feel our energy is best spent working on parts that are not yet reproduced instead of competing in a market of about 25 to 50 units sales ever.

I found Larry fine and fair to deal with, and would buy another set or two of Dator pistons to help justify another run of them. Unless Larry gave up the rights to the pistons I would go through him first...if you were to ask me.

Question:
If the OEM upper rod bearing is 19mm and there are not any available anymore why can't a sleave be pressed into the rod to accept an 18mm bearing which is readily available?

Just got off the phone with Larry......... Thinking we can do 25 sets of standards.... Please help me verify needle bearings. Larry has located 19-22-24. That is what I measure and received with the last set of repops and believe this to be correct . Is this correct information?

Chuck I measured & got a 23mm OD. I did find some caged needle bearings 19 X 23 X 24. Not sure IF 24 mm length will be a slight bit long or not?? I will recheck my measurements, Chuck ck one of you dator cranks I think you will find the rod ID as 23mm

That's great news you guys found the bearings! I'd love to help you guys with buying some pistons but I just don't have the money right now because of college and paying for restoring my Dator.
