Wet vac and gas does NOT mix. My neighbors burned their garage down doing just that. First, make sure the sled is outside and not right next to any buildings. To clear the engine of all gas, turn the ignition switch off, hit the kill switch, pull the plugs and carbs, disconnect the pulse line that runs from the fuel pump to the crankcase, put a little oil down each cylinder for good measure and pull the rope. Gas should shoot out of the plug holes and the pulse nipple. Keep pulling until nothing comes out at all, and then let it sit for 15 min. That should get all the gas out of the engine.

Mr Deere- I knew it was a joke, but I wanted to clarify that its a bad idea, more so for somebody just browsing through and not involved in the thread. We all have our moments of stupidity, and I don't want anyone to burn something down during theirs. We practically bathe in gas working on these sleds, and I think we can loose some respect for how much energy is contained in just a small amount of it. Something to think about.

smit-trailfire - How is that sled coming? To adjust the chokes, make sure with the dash down and the choke off, there is slack in the cable, about 1\8 of an inch. Then, take off the air box and with the dash down, use a mirror to look down the throat of the carb. you should see the brass choke plunger on the side. adjust the cable so when the choke is half on (90 degrees from off) the plunger is half way up the hole. and when its full on, the choke should be all the way up the hole. With the choke off, make sure there is still slack in the cable and you should be good to move on to the next thing. Hope you get it running.

Sounds like to me you really need to start from scratch. Meaning, a thorough going over of this sled with a fine tooth comb, people before you may have this sled in a very bad way on the mechanical aspect, maybe its god sent that it isnt starting, you mave have some bad seals and if you were to get it running and then decide to open her up on bad seals and an improper jetted carb, the outcome is grim. What are your looking to do with this sled other than take it for a ride? Complete resto? Bush beater?

its to far gone the body is bad what i wanted to do was ride it this year make sure it good running conditon and i have a nice jd trailfire that has a blown engine and i want to put it in there over the summer/spring

the fuel is disconnected so know what that can be a factor but i took off muffler and gas slowly sprayed out not much and sometimes it would backfire so i think get all gas out and try to bottle feed it??

when i first got it the fuel pump was dirty and didnt work, bottle feed it ran like a top, cleaned pump then it would rev up or idel and pretty much not good

i had it running and driving well sat over nite flooded nothing has gone right since

hmmm. did you try switching the spark plug wires? maybe you have them hooked up wrong and there not firing at the same time? mine was doing exactly what yours is doing.... so i switched and she ran fine.... Mine popped and fire shot out of it (no i didn't have the muffler on.. only the exhaust manifold..) But yeah try switching... just a thought... :~)

Get yourself some fuel line and try running it on a gas can of fuel, not the sleds gas tank, pre-mix at 50:1. I would also get yourself a fuel line shut off valve between the gas tank and fuel pump. The fuel pump may be allowing fuel to pass through it as it sits over night.
