The alternator windings are part of the stator. The voltage produced is above 15 volts and stepped down to 12 with the voltage regulator. Take a voltage reading (AC) at the wire connector terminal strip attached to the right side hood support. Test between the black and brown wires with the engine running.
12-15 volts AC = good alternator / voltage regulator
15 or more volts AC, good alternator, bad votage regulator
0 volts=-bad alternator windings
If you have the proper voltage at the black / brown wires but no lights, trace the wiring harness and also the connectors for a good ground.
Check / repalce the bulbs

Well i will check the voltage reading tomarrow and the bulbs are new, but what if it could be my wirring harnes was not installed properly by the previous owner that could be a mager factor aswell. So I think ill be spending some serious time in a my garage tomarrow going over a wirring diagram and then checking the readings, and does any one have a voltage regulater i could purchase? thanks for your all the help im only 14 and my dad works to much to help me, and I think this sled has so much potential and its a blast to ride newer sleds just are'nt the same joy again thanks for all the help.

The carbs are jetted with the airbox. Unless you want to rejet, keep the airbox on. They can be tough getting back together. I tap the sides as I slide the top down on the bottom part and the metal plate aligns itself.

This voltage regulator should work but you will need to splice your style of correct terminal-ends on the wire.
