WTB: 80-84 Liquifire suspension, drive sprockets

Post by manitobatrailfires »

Haven't looked at this forum, or my JDs since last March when the snow disappeared.

Christmas Eve in the country at my dad's, I fire up the only Trailfire that's easy to access, and after running it on the stand for about 45 seconds I tore my track. Could be worse, I could have been deep in the bush, but still a lump-of-coal Christmas present.

I've decided my best option is to do a rubber track retrofit for a Trailfire.

I found an LF track. Now I need drive sprockets. Any used ones out there? I'll buy new if needed.

I also will upgrade to LF suspension, if I can find the parts.

Anyone have what I need?

And also, in case anyone else has done this job recently, I've found conflicting advice on the forum on whether I need to drill new mount wholes in the tunnel if I put new sprockets on the existing Trailfire axle and use the LF rubber track. One post said I needed to move an inch forward, the other said it wold bolt right in. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Eric

Eric,
It is my understanding that if you swap in the entire LF suspension and OEM track into your Trailfire, it will bolt right in. The vendors of the aftermarket Kimpex track were the ones suggesting to move the front mounts forward.

I have an used drive shaft with sprockets that came off of an 80 LF.

For it to bolt in you can use the entire LF suspension BUT need to use the TF rear arm. The trailfire rear arm is longer than the LF one. If you want to use the LF rear arm you will need to drill the new holes.

The only disadvantage with the TF rear arm is that it does not have the idler wheels on it.

Good Luck!
