Replacing Cam Shoes

Post by JDMIKE8100 »

The cam shoes on the drive sheaves on my Cyclone need replaced.
In the summer I replaced them on my Liquifire, thought it to be a 15 minute job.
Tried to pull them out but were britle and broke off, ended up taking the assembly apart and drilled
them out.
Any easy way to get them out without snapping them off?

Heat the steel stem of a pop rivet with a propane torch while holding it with pliers. When it's hot, stick it down into the broken off piece of the torque button still in the stationary hub and wait until it cools. The broken piece should extract easily after it shrinks. I've had to drill out the more stubborn examples, but this usually does the trick.

The last 3 clutches that I replaced the buttons on, I just snapped the top portion of the buttons off flush with the cam, and then center drilled the stem that was left, threaded in a slide hammer and popped them right out.
