Pressure testing 440

Post by phishoook »

How do you pressure test a 79 trailfire?

I bought a sled with a rebuilt motor (top and bottom) 20 over. But It was loosing pressure already (120 right, 90 left). Off hand I was thinking the pto seal started leaking, but I really dont want to taer it down to see that its ok.

I've got about 10 days until the ice ovals.

Are the numbers you are refering to the compression results? Compression and the crank seals are in no way related. If your compression is that far out, it sounds to me like you will be doing a top end job on thes engine.

right, I know a new topend is due. But I want to make sure the bottom is sealed before I tear into it.

my advice would be that if you are going to go through the trouble to do a top end job, you might as well put new seals in it and reseal the crank case. However, to answer your question, pressure testing procedures can be found here:

As well as in the service manual, a copy of which is avalible on line here:

Good luck,
