Hi,
I had another post where I looking for the cause of a meltdown my '82 440 Trailfire had last weekend. It has a sleeved PTO cylinder and that is the cylinder that melted down. A pressure test after the meltdown was good, the fuel pump impulse line is good and the carb was cleaned last month and is jetted to stock specs. I was talking with BigDanno1970 the other night and something he mentioned got me thinking. It was a cold night last Saturday, probably getting close to the 0 F, -18 C were the jetting would change from the stock 230 main to a 240. Dan commented that the sleeved cylinder would not likely dissipate the heat as well as a stock chromed cylinder. So would that plus a cold night explain why the meltdown occurred? Would a sled with sleeved cylinders require a richer jet at a higher temp to compensate? If anybody else has some experience with running sleds that have had sleeves I would appreciate knowing how you have made out and what tuning if any you have done. I have the engine back together with a decent chromed pto cylinder, but I am seriously thinking about putting the 240 jet that I have in the carb until I am sure this thing isn't going to run lean and burn down again.
Thanks,
Murray
Sleeved cylinders = different carb jetting?

Murry,
I would not think the sleeved cylinder made any difference. Just the luck of draw which seal went south. Are the seals new installed by you or a close friend? What did the plugs look like prior to the meltdown.
If the seal in the mag side went down would you ask yourself the same question in reverse? A person MUST change jetting in accord with the temp/alt... The alternative is get FI or that Hultzman variable jetting system. It is a pain changing jets or just ride in 20 degree weather.

Checkmarks,
The thing is neither of the seals went out. The motor pressure tested fine. So it was lean on that cylinder only without any help from a leak after running two seasons without any apparent problem.
