JDX 6 fuel issue

Post by sknap83 »

Tis sled is a 1973 so probably a 74. It hasnt been run since 1980. My dad rebuilt the carb on it with a kit that he said looked a little sketchy like it was suposed to be the right one but it wasnt. He gave the sled to me because he cant pull it over and got one with electric start. Any way had put a primer in line. New fuel lines were installed. We can pull gus up the line with the primer. It stops at the t for the primer and the sled fired. But gas will drain back down the line into the tank. It wont stay into the fuel line. The carb is also sucking fuel but not a large amount. I am trying to find out if there is a check valve some place or is the diaphram in the carb suposed to hold fuel in the line. Thanks

There should be a checkvalve with a fliter on the pickup line in the tank.

If it is missing the fuel in the line will drain back to the tank making restarts difficult.

If the sled has sat since 1980 you had better but new crank seals in it or it will not run long.

Thanks for the information. My dad did the crank seal as well. He had it all ready to start and was pretty bummed when he couldnt pull it over. After talking to him he told me he put a check valve on the fuel line in the tank but didnt know if there was suposed to be one there. I am assuming the check valve is bad because fuel drains back into the tank as fast as you get it up there. After removing all the fuel line and installing clear so we could see what it was doing. Ill try it and let every one know how it runs.
