76 cyclone I am lost do I need seals?

Post by mikehjd »

I have a 76 cyclone and it will only run on the pto cylinder. It will run part of the time on the mag side but will cut out and when it is running it is flooding bad. I read all the FAQ and replaced the CDI and coils and nothing helps. Could it be electrical problems or would a bad seal cause this? When I got the sled the mag side coil was missing so I assume they were having trouble with it.

If you don't know the history of the engine, replace the crankcase seals. If the seals are bad, they can cause your symtoms. When you say it will only run on 1 cylinder, how are you checking that. If you do not have spark with the plugs laying on the head, it's electrical. If so, try switching the primary wires between the coils and see if the spark changes sides.

With the plugs out and lying on top of the engine there is nice bright blue spark. When you start the engine it runs on both cylinders but sometimes it will run for a 30 seconds or 5 seconds before the mag cylinder cuts out.
