Twin mikunis and CDI on JDX4

Post by jdxrobin »

Hey guys,
Got my internet in the garage 8) so have almost everything here I need.

Question, does anybody have any information on putting twin mikunis and CDI on my JDX4 340/5?
What I would hope to end up with is a quasi/295s for my X4. Probably need a donor engine from a 340 cyclone to get most of the CDI parts (also need a fan guard in decent condition for the engine...anyone?), and I am assuming that the mikuni specs of the 295s would be a good start to the carb set-up.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Robin, good to see you're still around. lwb140 just did a custom JDX4 project with a 440/22 w/ dual mikunis and CDI, there's a post here some where.

Cool sled!
I think the CDI is a pretty straight up deal, get a cyclone and bolt it on :shifty: , but the carbs I am a little more concerned about getting right. I am not exactly sure what the difference is between my 340/5 and the 340rs engine internally (the specs look indentical) maybe bearing sizes etc, so do I go with the VM34's and the 340/s set-up or do I assume that the 340/5 engine/exhaust does not flow as well and go with the VM32's of the 295/s  . ..does it really matter? To be quite honest, I understand that I would probably be better off just going with a single carb, but I look at it this way, would I have put a 2 barrel carb on my 1973 Mach 1 (RIP) if I was going to rebuild it from the ground up...ah no.
Any more thoughts?

the porting on the rs motors is more aggressive but i think it will run fine with 2 34s on it if you have them the 340/s jetting would be a great place to start like i said before tho the intakes may be tough to find and you may just have to make them otherwise it should be a fairly strait foreward deal making the intakes could be done but matching up a flang on the jug end but just using some tubing on the carb end to use a spigot type mount like the sportfires ive seen it done this way on jr dragsters and go-karts with no problem this would eliminate the 2 bolt carb boots too which have been known to leak just my thoughts wade
