No spark on Dator

Post by fast823 »

Dad was going to go for a cruise today and the Dator wouldn't start so we checked for spark and nothing. The tail light lights up when pulled over. Where do I start? Thanks,

Teather, key or kill switch?

Do you have spark if you unplug the engine harness connector?

If you still have no spark then the stator is suspect.

I was thinking one of those also. So unplugging the one connector it will by pass the key switch, tether, and kill switch? Do you have a wiring diagrahm?

Yes, unplugging the connector bypasses all the external switches.

Just helps steer you in the right direction.

There is a 76 models wiring diagram in the tech spec section of the home page.

Unplugging the white wire coming form the cdi box you should have spark. It may not be in the eng connector. The system is a ground to kill the spark. If there is still no spark its either the CDI Box or stator. I have the wiring diagram and how to ck those things if needed.

Finally had time to work on and hope have it going for vintage ride the 18th. Tried different stator and no spark. Put another CDI and got spark. Lucky we have some spare sleds to swap parts.

What crank seals go on the Dator?

The crank seals on a dator measure 30-72-10. Should be able to get them from most any sled/atv shop. Some only list 30-72-8 it would work as well
