800 y pipe
800 y pipe
Is there a difference between the y pipe used on the JDX8 and 800 to that used on a 77 LF?

Re: 800 y pipe
Also while I am at it, can you run the pipe without the can on the end? Is it purely for muffling or is it part of the expansion chamber design?

Re: 800 y pipe
The Y pipe is a different length and angle between the X8/800 and the Liquifire.

Re: 800 y pipe
So I guess the different length would affect the tuning of the pipe when used with the LF motor. Another interesting problem

Re: 800 y pipe
Not sure what you're trying to do (800 pipe on a Liquifire, or Liquifire engine on a mid-mount?). The exhaust itself will probably not be quite right for a Liquifire motor, because of other differences like porting, but it might not be a major difference. The JDX/800 y-pipe does not have a ball joint on it. It's just a straight piece of round tube after the Y comes together, with a pair of hooks on the side for springs. I know someone who has a NOS one if needed.

Re: 800 y pipe
Matt, I hope to get my liquid 600 project off the ground in the next month or so. My plan was a 440 LF motor and the pipe from a 800. That or I was going to try to mod a LF pipe to fit under 600's hood.

Re: 800 y pipe
Scott,
For packaging, you are probably better off to use the 800 pipe and exaust But the 800 Y-pipe will not bolt to a LF motor for two reasons: 3 bolt flange on the LF and a differenct angle of the ports. You will probably have to do some fabrication using the flanges off a LF Y pipe and perhaps welding the 800 Y pipe to it after you remove the factory flange.
The LF pipe is tuned for 55 hp, while the 800 pipe is tuned for 46 hp, single carb application. My guess would be that it would work OK, and stil have way more hp than the stock 440/5 had. The muffer can is only for sound attenuation, but please use it for a trail sled. I can't promote loud sleds for pubic use since noise is one of the major complaints of people trying to close our trails.
I hope this helps,

Re: 800 y pipe
Thanks Joe. Thanks for the information, the only reason I am looking at the 800 exhaust system is for ease of installation. It would be alot of fabrication to get the stock LF pipe under the hood. I hope to get this project off the ground after we are done with the flood.
