lighting question

Post by JDXsand00s »

now that my 73 500 seems to be good in the engine and carb dept, i figured i would work on the electrical. put in a wiring harness that seemed good but i don't know and a voltage reg off a sled hose lights i knew worked. the lighting coil has 1.0 ohms between the wires. i started the sled up and the lights were very dim: you could see the speedometer light and tail and brake lights, but no headlight either, plus i tested headlight and it was good. i don't think its the wiring harness dimming the light though maybe, but could the lighting coil be causing my problems? thanks.

check the contiuity of the light dimmer switch. Also try unplugging the dimmer and jumping the yellow wire to the pink, then to the green, one at a time. If both elements are good, the light should work .

could be a bad ground also the smaller lights take alot less than a headlight could also be a dirty connection at headlight but Id try running a jumper ground wire to the headlight first

Finally after two hours with a 12 volt battery and a lot of frustration i, with the help of my dad blitzblack, figured it out. the coupler that goes to the battery box with the filler plug was screwed up. th little plug that goes in it according to the service manual should have a red wire connecting the brown and white wire to the red wire and a black wire connecting the black to the brown. the problem is that the black wire can't be there for the wiring harness to work, it is powering the ground and frying the wires. i removed that and all lights came on immediatly. maybe this will allow me the get the other 4 wiring harnesses i have laying around working as they all have the same problem of a working tailight and a dim speedometer light and no headlight.
