I have heard pro's & con's. But it seems that they stuck with the port. till the end or was it just a promo. $ thing in the '70's like tryle and error deal? <_<

Except for a few very low HP motors everything today is reed valve. I think that speaks for it self. Peter

Piston port has the advantage of reliability, there is no reed to malfunction.
2 strokes used in aviation are piston port.
One advantage of reed, is that you don't get the spit back through the carb you get with piston port.
