Nice Spitfire found

Post by toocheaptosmoke »

Friend of mine has been looking for a JD sled for a while, I told him he needed a spitfire. Wouldn't you know it he finds a super clean '78 today! Probably one of the nicest finds I've seen locally. Has 700 some miles, track is awesome. Came with a new fuel pump, brake pads, and the original registration papers with tool kit. Looks to be a fairly early production sled, any reason for an M after the vin #?

Nice ride. I think the M was on all the serial numbers; I'm sure someone here knows what it means.

My brain housing recalls the following details pertaining to your serial number:

J - Horicon Works
34 - 340 cc
F - Fan cooling

F would be a 77 model year machine. G would be the 78's

Thanks for the info. From looking at the VIN it appears to have been the 60th built. 8)
