Cyclone 440 Only one spark. ???

Post by GOT2beVintage »

I am looking for some help with a little problem. I only have spark to number 2 coil. My number 1 coil is good already tested that. So the problem is with either the CDI box or stator. What I was wondering, since thare is no way to test a CDI box what is the best way to make sure the CDI box is getting the sorce it needs to fire both cylinders. Basicly What wires to I need to test from the timing ring or stator to make sure the CDI box is getting what it needs to work. Any help would be awsome, Thanks guys.

hello , so the blue and yellow wires from the stator should be common to both cylinders the red and green wires from the pick-up coil are what triggers the cdi the white is the common or ground theretically[sp] you should be able to swap the red and green wires on the pick-up coil to the cdi and the red and white to the coils from the cdi and that should swap your spark from side to side if one side of your cdi is bad wade

You can find rectangle aftermarket cdi boxes on Ebay and other sources. I would recommend a Fire-Plug from Hewtec.

Got my CDI box this weekend, and installed it. After I figured out who ever owned the sled before me had the coil wires mixed up the thing started first pull. Had me flustered for a minuite because I marked the wires when I took it apart. Goes to show when you work on something that has had who knows how many owners ya never know what kinda cobble job mix up ya may get into. Just glad it was something simple. Cleaned my carb, just need to fine tune, hook up a few other parts that I picked up off ebay, Get a new belt, put the chaine case cover on, and lube, Then all I need is snow. Coming together nicley now. Thanks for the help everyone..... :beers;

When you find something like this it should send up red flags.

Best to go over the sled front to back now rather than wait till you have 12" of nice fresh snow and only get 3 miles down the trail and have to take the walk of shame back home.

Congrats of getting to the point you are now but continue to free it of other issues.

Thats what I have been doing..... I got the new CDI box, and a few other ebay parts. This thing runs and looks good. She is freeee...... to the best of my knowlege. If not than I start another parts list. I am thinking serious about a full restoration. Maybe over the summer.
