Newton Engine

Post by Spitfire79 »

Hi Guys
I have a little 4 hp , 1 cyl. engine produced bt Newton Mfg. that I use in my son's go-kart. It runs well, but I'm curious about this engine and how I would find parts. It has a fuel tank attached and is designed to start on gas and then you switch it to kerosene. I run straight gas all the time but am interested in more info. No one up here ( manitoba) seems to have heard of it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Jeff

Here is a wild thought & possibility, Maytag (the clothes washer Co.) of NEWTON, Iowa, if I remember right, used small engines to run washers back in the days when electric power was not common in central rural America, before the REA of the late 40's and early 1950's. Not sure if that is the source of your engine, but it is lead to chase down. I have seen photos of their washer engine, would guess it to be less than 4HP, but did they sell larger ones????? I remember my Dad telling me that they experimented with a farm tractor way back when, so they were at one time into stuff besides appliances.

Thanks for the help. Guys. I'm nt sure if it's as old as WWll. It's in great shape runs well, etc. I was thinking that it may have been for a grain auger or something. I'll see if I can find anymore markings and let you know.

Jeff, I did a little search (Newton Gas Engines) and all I could find was a list of engines made in Iowa. There was one listed as Maytag-Newton. Don

Thanks Guys
I'll keep searching, but I appreciate the help. I guess it's one of those mystery engines
