Jet Needle Numbers

Post by Matt »

Does anyone understand jet needle numbers? I have a customer who asked if I can order a new carb for his '82 340 Trailfire. No problem, except the original 6F27 jet needle is no longer made. I am trying to figure out what is the closest replacement.

Here is a PDF from Mikuni's web site explaining the Jet Needle specifications: http://www.sudco.com/vol33/56-59.pdf

So the 6F part is no problem, but there is nothing anywhere near the 27, which I believe is the angle of the taper.

Reason: I wrote needle jet when I'm actually talking about the jet needle

JD fine tune manual says the letter is the taper angle and the number is:
"7 - Material, typeof coating and start of second
taper on needle."

This is a single taper, and I doubt 27 refers to a type of coating unless that's just the 7 and the 2 means something else....ugh.

Matt in my Trailfire parts book ( Dec 78 ) the 6F27 is for a 440 & a 6FL14 is for a 340? I guess they were updated to the 6F27as my 79-83 fine tune manual shows the same as your looking for used in ALL Trailfires.. I might be able to get a 6FL14? can't ck until Wed..
Personally I don't think he will ever notice the difference in performance or fuel leanness if you get a M69074 ( 6DH22 ) or a M67634 ( 6DP5 )... 6DH22 if I read the FTM right should be richer.... both of which I think can be purchased..

Needle jet
6 = basic length of needle
D = single taper ( single letter )
DH = double taper ( 2 letters )
7 = the Material, type of coating & start of second taper on needle ( not
sure on Double Letter Needles if 22 would be higher or lower of the start of the second taper than the 7 would be?? )

Along these lines, last year on the challenge I needed some help with jetting. Brian 400 had a really nice little jetting kit that all all sorts of sizes. It was about the size of a box of cards. I would like to get one of these? Are they available and where can they be purchased?

There is a case in my supplier's catalog that holds 22 main jets and a tool for them, and you just order whatever jet sizes you want. The case is $6 and the main jets are $3.70 a piece.

That's the one that I have. The problem I have now is that I can't read the numbers on the jets without a magnifying glass! :bonk:

Ok finally got some time to tackle this.

So I have a cyclone, 295s and liquidator. In stead of me looking through all the charts I bet you guys can raddle them off the top of your head. If you were going to fill this box with jets which ones would you do so with?
