74 John Deere JDX6 carb replacements?

Post by Kwish »

Well I recently picked up a JDX6 in fairly nice shape for 200 dollars, after redoing a lot of the wiring and cleaning the gas tank, replacing plugs and wires and checking the points I now have spark and am 90% done. Now I only have one problem left, the carburetor. Someone replaced the Walbro carb with a Tillotson HD14A and well it is un-rebuildable due to one of the jets on the high speed adjustment needles busted off in the carburetor body.I am just looking for either a few carburetors that will fit the intake or if I am most likely just going to have to find a HD14A body and swap everything over.

Thanks,
Christian.

Awesome, thanks. On the other hand I finally found an HD14A carb body, now hopefully all goes well in getting this thing together for its first run in 2 years!

Well, after a week of working... It lives!! It runs pretty good for being 39 years old I still have to do some fine tuning on the carb though.

Another problem has come up, It started and ran for a little bit today but I got a little ahead of myself and opened the choke up and it stalled out. Now it will not start back up and the crankcase line to provide the pressure for the fuel pump on my HD14A carb has a lot of gas in it. I figure its just flooded and disconnected the supply line and the crankcase pressure line and pulled it a few times to pump the gas out of the crankcase. Well after I did that it still would not start and within a few pulls the line was full of gas again. Any suggestions?

Remove the plugs when you are pulling it over as well, and for that matter they are probably flooded if you didn't already pull them.

Hmm thats what I was thinking but its just pretty strange that it was that flooded from running for 5 mins. I have left it sitting for a few days now and I'll have to try and see if it fires up when I get back to my cabin.

Well, I finally got around to getting up to my sled and attempting to start it after I let it air out a couple days with the spark plugs out. Still will not fire, its getting gas, and has spark but will not start still :/ Im out of ideas.
