looking for some help with my 76 cyclone 440. I have oil leaking from exhaust flange with the muffler meets the manifold. Someone said this could be due to the motor running too rich, is this due to the fuel mix ratio being off or the fuel needs to be adjusted? if fuel needs to be adjusted which setting would be turned down?

The black "goo" is unburned fuel condensing in the pipe. The common reason for this ( but not the only one ) is that you are running on one cylinder, or poorly on one or both.

I will check the plugs and let you know what would cause it to be running on only one cylinder? I'm assuming not getting spark? When I pull out plugs ill wheel it over and see how spark looks I just bought this sled Monday so not familiar with it yet plan on doing some digging Saturday!

The proper fuel / oil ratio is 50:1 When the term too rich is used, it generally refers to the carb jetting. I run my '76 440 Cyclone with stock jetting and no issues.
Check you fuel mix ratio
check the carb for the proper jets.
check the exhaust manifold nuts for tightness
Use good springs on the flex joint

i found my exhaust manifold was cracked where it attached to cylinders so oil was leaking out pretty bad got new one on the way and new gaskets and taking motor out to clean belly pan its loaded with oil plugs were just wet with gas clean not black at all but guy i bought it from said he just put new plugs in it and im not sure they are the right ones. how do you know what jets are in it are they labeled some how when you take them out?

Click on this link and save it to your computer. You will find all the specs and service procedures for your Cyclone. You should check all the controls, chaincase oil level, track tension and loose hardware before you start riding it around.
The jet numbers are stamped on the jets, your need a magnifying glass to see them.
