john deere chainsaws

Post by Spitfireguy »

A older friend that used to be a logger who is retierd now was cleaning his garage and found a john deere modle 61 chainsaw. he said it ran when it was stored there. and he said back in the day when he used it it was a strong runner and very reliable. well i took it home and found out the fly wheel was finished. so i went to my parts sorce and asked him bout it. and turns out the saw is the same as mighty might. so i bought a saw for 20 bucks and changed fly wheels sprayed some gas in her and it fired up on the first pull! i set all the jets sharpened the chain and now it works like a champ. awsome little saw. any one else like or own a deere chain saw? im a husqvarna man but my deere is a very good saw also so far.

I have a newer JD CS40. I think it's actually made by Husqvarna. It's a nice saw for general use. I only do little stuff around the house though, because I can't stand tree work.

Hey Guys,

I have one of the newer Deere saws, the CS56. It's probably alot like the one Matt has, just larger. I "think" Olympic" makes them out of Italy or something like that? Its got magnesium cases, and is quite light, and well dampened.

I really like it, and use it often for firewood. At the time, I was going to the local JD dealer to purchase a Husky, but they had the new at the time Deere saws. I bought the biggest one they had, but the CS71 came out a few years later.
