Ok I picked up an 83 Sprintfire last fall. It has good Compresion at 145 per side. Spark is good but seemed intermittent one point. I replaced the HSR box. I replaced the outer seals, Fuel line, Cleaned the Carb, Flushed the tank, inspected the clutches and drive train. Starts and runs ok. Just seems to lack power. I picked up a 78 Spitfire with this sled and that little thing hauls the mail. It hole shots and pulls the skis up. The Sprintfire is lethargic up to about 5000 RPMS and then it seems to scoot along ok. Averages around 5500 when it winds up. occasionally it will push 6000 RPM. 50 MPH seams to be the top speed. I kind of lost interest in it and it has sat for a month or so. I was having issues with it loading up at idle so I dropped down the pilot jet to a 20. It was an improvement but I hate altering the stock setup as there has to be a reason that it is running rich at idle. All I have left to look into is the exhuast. It appears to be flowing but I am going to pull it off and blow it out. (just blew out the exhuast, nothing obvious there) Other than that I am at a loss besides trying a different carb. Any Ideas?

Jerry, same thing here!!! Isn't that something? I love my 83 Sprintfire but am afraid to cross roads with it as I have to "feather" the throttle to get RPMs up. Once it's rolling it's one of the sweetest sleds I've owned. I love riding it but with all this Indiana snow I don't because I dont' consider it safe at road crossings.

I had the same problem on a very very low mile 83. I went round and round with that sled for a YEAR!!! Cleaned and replaced nearly everything! Long story short I found a NOS sprint carb and problem gone. I have been enjoying it for a couple years with no troubles.

Re: 83 Sprintfire Revisited
If I can't find any issues with the clutching I am going try a new carb.
