Just to let you know we are going to try to change a Sprintfire to a rubber Polaris track from one of there Direct Drive sleds ( they use the same pitch drivers & track pitch as the Spitz, Snow's & Sprints ) only thing is I won't be doing this until July when I get back up north to MN. I'm sure Chris will take lots of Pictures & measurements when we do this so others will see how it goes & works out.. I believe that either the Polaris or the Deere track is a little shorter than the other so there might be some adjusting to the suspension mounting position, & also at this point I don't know which suspension we are going to use in the Sprintfire, OEM or the Polaris.
If anyone has already tried or done this I'm open to whatever advice or knowledge you have...

Chris, Picked up the sleds on Fri. & he said he thought it looked like they were 5 tooth? But the guy he got them from said that the one that ran would do 70 mph, damn fast for such small drivers?? when the Spitz only did about 45 mph IF I remember right.. I don't know how fast the Sprint was being it has a 102C on it??
I planed on using the OEM Sprint drivers as both Deere & Polaris used 2.0 pitch tracks on there DD sleds..
I'll see if Chris can measure the Polaris drivers on one of the sleds..

I don't believe 70mph for a second on the Polaris DD. My friend had a Polaris Cutlass 440SS that was a DD brand new back in the day and the thing was an absolute pooch. My Yamaha Enticer 250 would outrun it all day, every day.

I don't believe 70mph on a Sprintfire either. My guess of an actual gps "top speed" on the Sprintfire might be just just over the 60mph range. Like the Spitfire's, they are both quick, not fast. Going 50mph on these things feels like you are going 90.

I'm in Robb's corner here too.

My thinking was that the JD drivers are bigger and that would be a plus.

Well I kind of thought the same thing, you know every ones sleds are always faster than they really are, LOL never rode one so I really couldn't say one way or the other.. I do know that back in the day I met a guy at a couple of CC races who was riding a Spitfire, not even sure what class it was in as it was in one of the other classes, after both races I saw him at & both times he told me that the Yamaha's were way faster then he was, he said that he didn't even have a chance to even place..
I really wasn't looking for speed out of this deal I just was looking for a 2.0 pitch track that might work & that was still available to replace the cleated track, not sure of anything though until I get to ck things out..

Kenny,

I will be interested to see what you come up with on this one. I'm guessing that the swap will be able to be done but that the "fun-ness" of the Deere's will be minimized due to the turning of a much heavier, less flexible track.

It's probably a more durable option long term but much of the "peppiness" of these little sleds will be absorbed by the mass of the track.

Guys,

There looked like a DD track on Evil Bay the other day at $150.00. The only NOS ones I have ever found were the earlier 78-79 style, and that was only once.

Robb, & Bob, that may be true but until I get to look at these tracks I'm only guessing & hoping they will work, as a viable solution for a track replacement, our is a rider so It'll still look like a Deere when the track is full of snow.... I do know that Camoplast makes a replacement 2.0 pitch track for the Polaris DD sleds & I'm hoping once I see that the OEM Polaris DD tracks will work that I'll be able to purchase one of the Camoplast tracks, I'm also hopping that they are like a 1 ply track & not as heavy as the OEM Polaris ones are??
As far as power goes I don't think the Sprints will have any problem but the free air sleds might with a thicker track??
