ETD Liquidator

Post by dator-bob »

Here are some pics of my Liquidator, that I raced for ETD in 76-77. Took it all apart, to clean it up.
Just starting to put back together. This was a fast race sled, made that way by Steve Tabor My wrench
for the season.

Thanks for posting the pictures Bob, what does this sled have for race history? How many different Liquidators did you have for those 2 years?
I'm also curious about the changes you made to your Liquidators from the beginning to the end of you racing them.

Bob,

Please forgive the questions, as I rarely see a "Dator" let alone close up pictures, but the few that I have are:

Top Picture: Carb intake boots seem to be rotated what I would call "counterclockwise" and the alignment tab for the carb isn't top center like most. How did the carbs fit into these?

2) Dash - What are all of the toggle switches for?

3) Front on picture, bottom, just left (as your looking at the picture) of the steering, seems to be an opening with something just visible behind it. Is that a specialty access?

4) Front on again picure, right side below bumper is cut out. Why?

Oh, I think I just figured out what one of the toggle switches are for- Probably that actuator for the highly technical integrated 2 way radio system.

Thanks for the pictures, they are great.

Bob A-

I would like to take a stab at the answers to your questions...a little jeopardy here...

I think the rotation of the carb flanges is to allow easier access to the clamp screws, rotating offcenter keeps the clamp screw in line of sight

Bumper is cut out for air flow to clutching

toggle switches are for ignition switches, one ignition system fails you can go to another box

i dont see a special opening, I see a steering bracket..

I hope I won that trip to Alaska...!! :beers;

Paul,

I agree on the steering bracket. Upon closer look it seems to be the mounting bracket.

I feel like I should have heard of using a toggle switch for the CDIs before, but I haven't. Great idea though! I'm half tempted to put that on my Dator, but I think I'll still put it back to how it was as raced with a mini plug set up.

Bob,

Congrats on having one of your Liquidators return home! Its a darn good story that it was found and purchased at an auction in such good shape. Glad to see you grab it when I came back on the market.

Are you going to do a total restore or an original rebuild of her? No matter what you do, it will no doubt be a great piece of history.

Thanks Joe, it's was great to find one of the sleds that i raced with ETD.I would like to know out this sled got out of Horicon, as most of the ETD Dators got crushed, except for Brian's I-500 Winnipeg sled. I want to make it look as original as possible. I've taken most of it apart, and cleaning everything up as good as i can.I'm touching up some of the black paint, like the pipes, and the skis.Tough to find a match for the Dator green though. Finding lots of rusty bolts & nuts. I found a product that dissolves rust off most parts, just soak the parts or bolts over night, and in the morning the rust is gone,so i can use most of nuts & bolts again, it's called Evapo-Rust,i found it at Canadian Tire here in Winnipeg.
More on the history of this sled later.----Bob

Maybe A guy at the scrap yard snagged it up before it was crushed. Very sad to know most of those sleds got crushed.
