Before I dive in to the X8 for a left cylinder spark problem I will ask a couple of questions on any ideas or thoughts.

Like I said the other day 5 pulls and the sleds were running, today after mowing the yard I fired up the X8 and she ran rather well. It sounds real good but being auto mechanic also by trade I checked some things over and found that the left side or PTO side cylinder doesnt really show signs that it is firing. I pulled the wire off the plug when it was running and didnt see a big difference in performance, then when I plugged the wire back on I noticed that the cylinder fired off right away kinda like a little backfire, I repeated the process and the same thing..........any quick ideas or suggestions??

I also pulled the right side wire off and the sled will die at idle but not at higher RPM"S. The left side will then pull its weight.

Today I looked into the problem further more. I ran the sled with the left side spark plug in the head and had another spark plug handy and plugged it into the spark plug wire and ran the sled. The spark plug has continuous spark all the time. The crank seal was changed also last fall too. I am beginning to think I may have a fuel problem, possibly the carb which has never been 100% rebuilt but has been torn down and cleaned when the sled was first brought home. Today I also removed the tank and cleaned it with the chain in it and rattled it around. The tank is like new now.

My question is that the carb is stamped WDA-34. The carb kit for this carb is not listed as a WDA-34. The WDA-1 carb kits, is this the same kit?

I'm a little confused. What is wrong with the sled? You said it is running well?

As of now, I have a bog on the throttle when throttling it up real fast, poor idle problem now, it will not idle consistent at 2500 rpms, it will rev up to 3000rpms on its own then drop down to 1000rpms for a bit and then slowly taper off and die. The bog is as if it had an accelerator pump out of it like a Ford carb. would.

Checked spark quality on both plugs and both are blue/orange spark. Cylinder #1 is not running as strong as #2 cylinder, sled almost dies when only running on #2 cylinder, but will not run at all at an idle when running on #1 cylinder only.

Crank seal replaced last fall on cylinder #1.

The sled when it does idle correctly it sounds real, real, good. But take the idle up slow by the hand throttle and she kinda snorts a bit and almost as if it has misfire. It starts real easy also, about 2 pulls on a warm engine. 5 pulls on a cold engine or till the fuel get to th carb.

Cylinder #1 and #2 both have consistent spark all the time, found this out today.

I am thinking all this is fuel delivery problems.

I know I need a carb rebuild. The carb is stamped WDA-34. The kits I have found are listed as WDA-1, is this the correct kit?

Sorry for the confusion guys.

No, the WDA-1 has a kit of it's own. There is another kit that works with most of the walbro carbs: Shade tree Web Site

Hey Paul

The one basic kit covers the pumper carbs used on 00/JDX series.

As others have stated before, the kits have not been complete, at least as of late.
My last one was missing the big fuel screen, remove the original one carefully!, you'll have to carefully scrape the gasket material off.

No harm in rebuilding the carb, I'm not sure it's your problem though.
The fact that it runs on one cyl better than the other is the red flag for me.
You could have an ignition issue under compression, or a mechanical issue in that cyl.
As I recall, you had problems with that cyl last winter, which is why you replaced the seal.

Can you switch the leads on the coils ( and the plug wires ) to find out if the problem follows? ( switches cyls)

The screen is pulled away from the gasket material already, it was full of rust also when I looked at it this weekend, hopefully this kit has everything like the tech stated.

Thanks Brian.
