Countdown to the RWTC 2014

Post by 400brian »

Preparations are moving slowly. I have had the two sleds running, and they are in my parent's heated garage waiting my attention. The pickup has been to the dealer to have a starting issue resolved, bad temp sensor was the problem.

I am now registered in MI. Not as a sex offender ( that would have been my first choice ). The X8 now has a Historic Snowmobile sticker, no more trail passes! I sent in the paper work on Jan 14, and got the sticker on the 25th.

Katy and I are looking forward to a great weekend in the Northwoods. Trail conditions are currently reported to be good to excellent.

Word is that there may be another X8 on the Vintage Challenge.

Brian,

Did they mail your historic registration to your house or did you need a "valid Michigan address"?

Lindner,

Wade and I plan to spend a week in St. Germain riding before the HOF events. Since your rotary phone can't get pic's, here is a preview of my Liquifire:

Image

Assuming we survive the I-500, she will be at the Vintage Challenge. Just to hedge my bets, I am also bringing Cari's Sprintfire, a rebuilt 82 Liquifire, and a modern Cat or two just in case I "pull a Rainville" and trash the sled again. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Later Liquidator!

With the vintage Michigan sticker you will still need a Wisconsin trail pass. Illinois law is it has to be registered in the state your drivers license is. Not sure how the others work

Mailed to my residence. Roger Jordan has said that out of state registrations were anticipated from day one.

I had thought "proof of ownership" to be the biggest issue, as WI has never titled sleds. However, MI gives you several ways to do this. One is prior registration, since I had renewed my WI reg on-line, I still had the renewal ticket.
I sent that in with my application and $$, and they accepted that.

WI would be happy if you registered your sled here, and I think its a better deal then the trail pass.

Being as I live in WI, I have the sleds registered here, I do not need a trail pass.

I do register in both states better deal. Forgot to send my forms in though and had to buy a trail pass. Is Wisconsin looking at doing a vintage sticker like Michigan?

Looking forward to seeing everyone once again. Thoughts and good wishes for all the I500 guys, you have my admiration, maybe someday I will get a set. Anxious to hear the stories, especially Joe, Wade and Chris who I am most familar with.

This year I became friends with a Ski Doo vintage guy in my home town (Craig Kittleson) and I talked him into taking in the HOF weekend but we decided to do the Swamp Challenge ride on Saturday. So I will not be on the real vintage challenge up to Fish Tales. Still plan to be at the Poker Ride Friday, Fish Fry Friday night and Saturday night banquet to be able to catch up with many.

Weather and trail conditions look to be excellent this year. I will be up with family riding at Boulder Junction this weekend to confirm all the reports.

Look forward to seeing everyone and especially our Deere representatives on the HOF board.

My understanding is that bills have been introduced several times, but the DNR is against this, as they fear they we lose $$, I'm not getting my hopes up.

The bill to require everyone to join a snowmobile club has stalled as well, not that I was too keen on it.

Does it help he said there isnt any 3 legged Deere on the hood of this! I told him it was a nice sled but NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE, and he told me to just keep telling myself that, lol! He did put alot of work into it, and it is a very nice machine.

In just under the wire, I finally installed the motor the Watersboy rebuilt for me last year into Cari's 83 Sprintfire. I also replaced every piece of fuel and oil line in the sled, cleaned the carb, blasted and painted the exhaust and replaced one of the coolant hoses that was rubbing on the recoil:

Image

During the start up process, I found the darn oil pump was not moving any oil, even after repeated priming and such. Turns out that pump was hosed, but luckily I had an NOS one on the shelf. After a proper purge, she started moving oil just fine.

As of last night, everything was bolted up and she is ready to go. Cari "might" attempt the poker run this year...

Looking forward to riding with you guys, and guiding the 6th Vintage Challenge...
