Replacing Mikuni needle & seat

Post by ammon »

I bought some parts from Matt, and I am inside the mikuni carb on my 81 Sportfire. In the Deere parts catalog, it lists a M65377, "ARM". Holding this arm in place is a "PIN", M65338. I need this out of the way so I can replace the "Mikuni 1.5 needle & seat". So do I drive the pin out and replace the needle and seat then re-use this PIN to re-attatch the ARM? I don't want to go banging around until I consult you friends.
If I do remove this pin, what is the safest way without ruining things? :bonk:
Thanks,
ammon

The pin is probably just a little stuck in there, give it a gentile tap with a center punch or something and it should come right out.

Also, try slipping a thin screw driver under the head of the pin and gently loosen it. There is scored portion under the head which holds it in place.

Turn the carb on its side and place a small 1/4 in deepwell socket under the cast portion of the carb directly under where the pin will be coming out, then take a small punch and gently tap on the pin. I have broke the casting supports off before :bonk: . Yours may not be stuck, but just a precaution. Brock

Future reference: buy a spring loaded window punch. One pop every time.

I had to Google that, for a second I thought it was like a left-handed smoke shifter or a muffler bearing.

Yes, unless you're a fireman, then you get to punch Windows. One perk of the job. :)

Still a good supply of "Nice" kraco cassette players available, jvc boom boxes, and some alpine speakers. What's your pleasure?
