Post by 6tractor6 »

hey guys I'm new to the site, i've been working on older sleds now for a few years. i do most of the work myself this being said I happened to pick up a 74 john deere JDX4 special i'm having some issues getting it to run, it'll run for a few seconds then dies. it has a mikuni carb on it with stamped number w2 2 9 ? i'm trying to search what type it is still but having no luck! i'm not too familiar with these types of carbs any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your X4 Special should have a 340/5 in it, and it originally had a Bendix carb I believe, so the Mikuni is a transplant.

Photos would be helpful.

My first thought is it's not getting fuel.

Welcome To the Site.

Pilot jet is most likely plugged up. The carb and fuel system needs a good cleaning. And don't forget about those crank seals. They should be replaced if they haven't been replaced in the last 5 years.

Old sleds are hours of entertainment.... then you get to ride them for a little bit.
