76 Cyclone drive shaft length
76 Cyclone drive shaft length
I have a 76 Cyclone that came with no front track drive shaft & I want to put a hex shaft in it. What length shaft do they come with from the factory? Is there a newer shaft out of another Deere that will get this done for me?

A hex shaft from a Trailfire and later Liquifire will work. You will need to find the correct size hex drive sprockets which are 2.52 pitch. Try contacting Joe Rainville on this board.

Re: 76 Cyclone drive shaft length
Hi Nute,
Like Pat stated, the hex shaft from any 79+Trailfire or 80 Liquifire with bolt on track drive sprockets should fit your Cyclone and allow you to use the 78 Liquifire 440 track drive sprockets that are also hex drive. The later 81-84 Liquifire uses pressed on sprockets so I do not think those drive shafts have the bolt holes pre-drilled.
And as Pat said, I have a pretty good supply of the NOS 2.52" pitch hex drive sprockets if you need a set.
Thanks,
-Joe Rainville

Thanks guys for the info! I want one of the drive shafts with the press on drivers as I'm not for sure on driver size yet. I'm using a .975 lug track out of a mid 90s Polaris.

Re: 76 Cyclone drive shaft length
Nute, the pressed on drivers from an 81-84 Liquifire or 82-84 Sportfire will have a 3.29" pitch, while the 79-84 Trailfire and the 80-81 Sports have a 2" drive lug pitch. Most likely the Polaris track you plan to use will have a 2.52" drive lug pitch like your original cleated track. Most newer tracks are driven by two rows of drive lugs on the center belt only, so spacing may be an issue.
I am not sure how much clearance the 76 Cyclone tunnel will have around the front drive axle, but I do not think a taller lug track will fit around larger diameter drive sprockets without hitting the tunnel. I would suggest taking some measurements to be sure.
Good luck with your swap,
-Joe Rainville
