Dual Carb X8?

Post by guitardude081 »

I bought a '73 JDX4 last year with a 32mm mikuni and a'73 JDX8 on Saturday. I am not a fan of any gasket bearing the Winderosa name and have little trust in the Walbro I currently have rebuilt on the shelf with Winderosa gaskets installed. Anyone ever try putting a Liquifire intake and Mikunis on a JDX8 motor? They're both KEC 440 reed motors. Just curious if the manifold will fit. If I'm going to restore a JDX8, I may as well do something different.

The manifold will fit. I have an X8 with this setup sitting in my barn. Not a very good picture, but you can see them.

Tom,
Did you use the Liquifire carbs as well? Any idea what your jetting is?

Jack,
This sled came to me as is in a group that I bought, so I can't say what the carbs originally were. Both the carbs and engine are froze solid, since it sat outside for a number of years. I did do a dual carb setup on a 440 Cyclone a few years back, though. I used the Liquifire carbs and exhaust. The setup worked quite well, but I'm guessing the difference in exhaust pipe would require some adjusting of the jetting. If you need the manifold, let me know. This sled is going to end up getting parted out.

I have this set-up on a 74 x4 with an 800 motor and pipe ! its a rocketship! yes 440 lf carbs . tiny primary jets and not very big mains. put 30 miles on it in st germain last winter or winter before , cant remember which. has cdi conversion , was using magneto coils at the time and fouled a plug or two. since then ive changed to a 295 coil mount and cdi coils. haven't ridden since. wade
