1978 Liquifire 440 Clutch Alignment w/ no tool

Post by rcaustin »

Hi,

I am wondering if I can perform the proper clutch alignment without buying the tool? The reason I ask is because I have a vintage ride coming up and I don't think I will have time to order/ship the tool up to me (i'm up in Calgary, AB, Canada). I called the local shop but they don't carry this tool. Can I perform this task with a straight bar and some measuring? Does anybody know these specs?

Thanks,
Ryan

If you have the engine and the base-plate out of the frame, bolt the base-plate back to the engine in the exact location is was, using the lock-washer wear marks as a guide. Here is a page from the service manual.

Thanks for the dimensions! that is exactly what I was looking for. I did just what you said. I had the whole motor out last night and put the bolts back in the same spot as where I took them out. I just wanted to do a double check to make sure things were in the right spot. the bolts that hold the motor to the base plate were loose so I wanted to put some blue loctite on them to make sure they didn't come loose again. I will double check the dimensions tonight and if they are out a bit I can make some adjustments.

Thanks,
ryan
