72 500 walbro carb

Post by BlazinC5 »

So I fanally got this old 500 started. Complete tear down of engine and fuel system. Put it all back together and she runs. So I finally get some time to adjust the carb. (New seals and cleaned well). Its a walbro WD8-5
I set the needles to 1 full turn out to start. Long story short. To get it to idle good and have throttle response. The low speed needle has to be turned out around 3.5-4 revolutions.. that's to much i would say.. btw, setting the choke partially on did seem to help with the screws only at one turn.
So I tried readjusting my metering needle inside the carb. Bent the tab inside the carb hoping for more fuel. It currently is around .040" hanging below the carb body... didn't seem to help. The leaf in there sits flat. Don't think there is a problem there.
Everything is pointing to being very lean. Anyone have an idea of what to check or adjust now?
