75 Barn Find
Finally found a nice 75 800. Pulled this out of a barn after 15 years of sitting. Besides the dust and pigeon poop the sled is amazingly clean and straight. Odometer shows 980 miles and after looking over the sled I think it’s correct. The original windshield is still good but I pulled it off so it wouldn’t get wrecked while trailering. Motor has great spark and 145 psi on each cylinder. I’m hoping to start restoration this coming summer. Have a couple projects to finish first. I’m pretty excited about this one so I thought I would show it.

Re: 75 Barn Find
very nice. and very jealous. I have only ever seen one in person but did not have the money at the time to buy it, always just wish I would have bought it. P.S. the x4 look sharp.
Question, did the 800s have cdi like the 75 x8s did as an option as well?

Yes the 800's have CDI just like the X8's. The 800's are basically the same exact sled as the X8's except for the boggie wheel suspension. Thanks for the comment on the X4, its a 74 special. A golf course in ND had bought it new for the purpose of winter maintenance(not sure what you do on a golf course in the winter for maintenance) so it is an original low mile machine. I just finished with replacing the crank seals and checking everything out in the engine due to the machine sitting for a long time.

Re: 75 Barn Find
Great find! I restored my 800 first, and it is still my favorite. Was the whole reason I had to find a 75' JDX8 as a match. They look great on the trailer together.
Question: what is the SN on the sled? Just curious where in line this one came off.
These 800's, and the 75' JDX8's had the "option" of the upgraded CDI system. Not all had it. Both of mine did, so I got lucky as well. Yours is extremely low miles, so it should be fantastic. Replacing the crank seals is #1, which you've already accomplished. I would say if you rebuilt the carb, and went through all the normal items (fuel lines, etc). you'll have one great machine. Your dimmer switch and kill switch look perfect! Usually they're broke or at least faded.
There are always surprises on these things as you well know, but we look forward to what this will be when you are done with it. Feel good that you have one, as many look for them, but they are becoming few and far between!
Good Luck!

Re: 75 Barn Find
The S# on my 75 800 is #030968 and does have the CDI upgrade. I have not done anything to the 800 yet as I just got it and its been to cold to even pressure wash it. I plan on starting on the 800 this coming summer and I'm very excited to start on this sled but I have to wrap up a couple other projects first. I'm not sure what I want to do with the 800 yet, complete tear down and restore, or do the basics(engine seals, fuel lines, carb overhaul, bearing checks) and ride it as is. A part of me likes it the way it is now (cosmetic wise) and a part of me wants to completely restore it. I might have some questions for you Jason when I get started on my 800. Both of your 75's are very nice.
I'm just finishing up with my 74 JDX4 Special with electric start that sat in a pole barn on a golf course in ND since new, they only put 580 miles on it. I just finished putting new seals, and gaskets in the engine and going through the slide rail suspension. Its amazing how tight this sled feels riding it. I'm still doing some tuning on the carburetor for the X4 because the Bendix carb started to leak and the needle and seat was going bad so I had to switch to a Walbro.

Re: 75 Barn Find
That JDX4 looks awesome! As someone on this site said, midmounts will have their day! They are definitely getting more popular. I will try and give you a hand with your questions. I'm still learning a lot about them myself. Made a lot of mistakes, but have learned a lot. Mostly new seals, bearings, rebuilt carb, fresh bogies, and making sure there are no air leaks on your intake and exhaust side. I accidentally burnt down a piston and learned the hard way. Plus, the reed valve motors are more sensitive to lean conditions. I added a Trail Tech temp sensor to my PTO side on both sleds. Gives me a better feel for how cool or hot the engine is running.
Look forward to seeing more on your build. Good luck!

Re: 75 Barn Find
Jason, Where are you getting your rebuild kits for the Walbro carbs? I was trying to find Windorsa kits but was not having much luck. I believe the WRA and the WDA use the same kit?
Thanks

Re: 75 Barn Find
Yes they do. I think the last one I got was from New Breed Parts. But I think I also got a Winderosa kit off ebay a number of years back. That's all I look for is to make sure the kit is for WR, WD, WA. They kinda all interchange, you just have to make sure you're putting the right gaskets and diaphragms back in the correct order.

Re: 75 Barn Find
Thanks Jason, Matt. I have purchased a lot of stuff through New Breed and im not sure how i missed the carb kit. I think i saw it on the site but didn't see it was a Windeorsa kit.
Jason, did you rebuild your boggie wheels or just re grease them?

I got a few nice replacements, and re-greased as many as I could. I have not rebuilt any yet. Might take a stab at that, as I've done it for idler wheels, just not bogies.

Jason, Will you be at Waconia this weekend? I would sure like to see both of your 75's. I hear Waconia got 11" of snow yesterday

Sorry Andy, I will not be there. I'm trying to work Waconia back into my rotation at some point. But, being I'll be in Wisconsin in a few weeks, I tried to stick to more local events cause Waconia is quite a haul from my neck of the woods. Maybe I'll head down next year! Thanks!.... I will be fishing on Lake of the Woods, however I'll post something if we get a good catch!
