Hey Guys,
things are going pretty well I have the engine out and am starting to strip it down have the Flywheel and Sheave to go.
Tonight I tried to remove the flywheel. I removed the flywheel retaining nut and washers and installed the flywheel puller an started to wrench on the centre thread bolt on the puller. It got to the point where the I could barely use the ratchet to turn the centre bolt on the puller and the flywheel still would not pop off!
Am I missing something or doing something wrong?
I included a couple pictures to make sure I doing this ring.
Thanks

Re: Flywheel Removal! What am I doing wrong?
Is there anything else I can do to help this thing pop off?
I saw some guys use a torch to heat the flywheel? Can I do this? Im a little concerned with the stator right behind.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx

Get it as tight as you dare, then take a hammer and hit the end of the puller where you are using the ratchet to tighten. A good swift but not overly hard blow. The shock and vibration can get them to pop loose. this may take a few time to work on a flywheel that has not been removed in a long time.
tighten
use a dead blow hammer to hit, good
re tighten
hit a few more times
repeat
I have tightened many a times and even broke the puller bolts, I stay away from heat as it can cause problem with components behind, like wires and coils if over heated.

Oh man breaking the puller bolts!
Not something I want to do!
I was thinking about smacking the end of the large puller bolt but the service manual says not to do that as you can damage the crank bearings. Is that a concern?
Thx

I always hit the fly wheel with a soft rubber mallet. Not hard blows bc you don't want to damage the crank or bend the flywheel. Go in a circular or triangular pattern.

Yes! success!
I took your advice and tapped on the flywheel with a hammer lightly and I ended up putting a little heat to it as well and then cranked on it till it popped off!
Thanks Guys
