76 Liquifire 440 replacement CDI?

Post by Jstimp92 »

I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times and sorry if it has, but im not finding the answers I need. I just bought a 76 Liquifire 440. Its missing the prestolite CDI box, OEM part number AM54169 is no longer available. I just ordered an aftermarket one( SPI 44-63500) but the plugs dont match. I can cut and splice it in but want to make sure it has the right curve and is safe to use. If not does anyone know of any or have a part number for a compatible aftermarket CDI? Thanks

It is perfectly fine to cut the plugs, it will work. JD used two different plugs over time but it was the same box. However there is a much better CDI out there from www.cdibox.com. But if you go that route you should also get a rewound stator from him. If you want 100% reliability that's the way to go.
