I have a 1980 and a 1982 liquifire that both seem to run rich at idle and mid range after they run for a while. If I hold it wide open it clears up, but occasionally they load up and stop.
I have two questions, does it matter what kind of oil you use synthetic vs standard? I have been using synthetic, could this be a problem?
Second I have thoroughly cleaned the carburetors and rebuilt them with kits. Including removing all of the jets. I didnt drill anything out just cleaned. I put them all to stock recommended settings from the tech manual. Does anyone have any advice for where to begin adjusting these to lean up the idle and the mid range?
Thank you for the help.

Are your chokes set correctly? A small discrepancy will cause them to run rich and foul plugs like crazy.

thanks for asking, I measured and set them per the spec in the book. Then when it started flooding on low side, I backed the chokes off so they are loose where cable attaches when the choke is disengaged.

Are the small plate washers in place under the chokes?
Re: Liquifire Running rich at idle and mid range
Check the sealing rubber on the choke plungers. It hardens with age and can inhibit good sealing.

Do you know the purpose of these? I've never had a sled that had them. From photos I've seen they look like a little metal shim.AirborneX4Special wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 2:12 pm Are the small plate washers in place under the chokes?

Re: Liquifire Running rich at idle and mid range
I think all the LF's I've ever owned had them. Parts calls them a "washer" p/n M66660 but I can't confidently recall their advertised purpose. It seems like someone in parts told me the only thing he knew was they're supposed to help secure the choke retention nut, but that was many moons ago. It's just a thin brass plate but it is made to form to the carb frame so it cannot rotate. I'm sure lots of them ended up lost or disregarded like a tractor PTO shield. If they're missing it would alter the effective choke length slightly but perhaps not enough to make any difference since the spec has a range in the operator's manual.

updated the choke plunger and reset. this helped one not the other. The other sled I opened the air screws a 1/4 turn this seemed to help.
