1983 John Deere Trailfire 440 Stator

Post by TRLRider »

I am stuck. My stators wires got cut when the flywheel was removed with a puller at a small engines shop. Now I won't put my engine back together until I have this stator fixed and installed. I am looking to either buy a new stator that fits this sled or just a coil to fix the damaged coil. (Im not sure on the name of the coil, but im pretty sure its Called the lighting coil which I think is the coil that is tightly wrapped copper wire with no insulation around it. I have heard about some arctic cats having similar stators or coils but im just not sure which ones they are and I have also done research into just buying one online but I can't find one anywhere. I also was wondering if re wrapping it is an option but I just don't know if I wanna risk something happening down the road on the trail. So do any of you know what stator is required for this sled and where I can find either a stator or a replacement coil? at this point I am just hoping that someone on here knows where I can find one or else this sled won't ever run again.

Please ask me any questions so I can clarify certain things.

thanks

I'm quite sure re-wrapping is an option. Now, I'm not sure where you live, but here in Ontario Canada I'm considering sending a stator off an 80 sportfire to a guy in my area who re-winds stators, by the name of "Stator Kev". He mainly does arctic cat stators, but he has done a JD stator or two. If you look on his photo gallery, he has a photo of what looks like a stator of the JD Fire series.
Somebody who knows better than me will probably pitch in at some point but with no reply yet I thought I'd add my two cents. :lol22:
