Prototype 295/s Aluminum Suspension Rails

Post by JoeRainville »

Gentleman,

I had the good fortune of being able to hands on inspect a set of NOS prototype aluminum suspension side rails originally made for the JD295/s earlier this year. They were ridiculously light compared to the original steel rails, but I doubt they would have been very durable for the abuse seen in cross country racing.

Robert Carlson, Jon's brother, thought they may have been testing for lake racing to remove more mass from a 295/s.

I had heard rumors that aluminum rails existed, but have never seen pictures or proof. This was quite an interesting find I thought! Hope you enjoy the pictures.
