I've only cleaned a few carbuators and those being from a older jetski. So im all new to these slide carbs. First let me explain these have been sitting for at least a year and half outside on the sled before I got to this. Im going to attach pictures with the questions next to them so it will be easier to understand. :wacko:

Carb tarnish
-I have a couple questions for this picture
Q1) Can I use a soft wire brush (brass) after I dip the parts in carb cleaner to get the tarish off?
Q2) The needle to the left; the tip of it is no longer perfectly rounded like a bullet, it has flat spots at the end were the throttle valve sat on it. Do I need a new one and were do I find it?
Q3) The white plastic nipple; should I remove these before dipping the parts in carb cleaner? Also were to I find new ones, one is broken.
Throttle Valve
-Where the needle rests on the valve it is indented, is this bad and will I need a new valve?
Float Cover
-I also have a few questions for this picture
Q1) Not really a question but just what you guys can see the type a crap thats inside this carb, the white stuff was wet sludge but has dried...rather quickly.
Q2) Does anyone know where I can get those TINY float caps for the rods. Im missing one.

I have one parts carb with possibly some of the goodies you need. I will have to dig it out. My carbs were no where even close to what you have for dirt. Holy cow!!

First off your carbs are in bad shape. They can be rejuvinated though. I would take all the jets apart and needles and soak them in carb cleaner for 24 hours. Keep the plastic 90deg. nipple on the carb, a hose is suppose to hook onto that to the float bowl. REPLACE all your jets and jet needles. You can get them from parts unlimited pretty cheap. Your throttle slide is ok, the dent isnt that bad and is pretty normal, i guess it wouldnt hurt to take a small file and trim it down a hair. Be sure to blow compressed air through all the orfices so they are clear. As for float caps you should get some from again PU maybe in a kit or if you have a friend with some laying around.

first off guys that white stuff is oxidised aluminum you anit gonna clean that out with carb cleaner properly mostly because it pits .. bead blasting will clean that and carb body nicely.. when bead blasting make sure you remove all jets .. that brass one down center may take a wooden dowel punch to get out
once beading is done clean out carb with presurized carb cleaner..(spray can) three or more times.. blow with compressed air between each carb cleaner
using a brass wire brush you can clean the old jets enough to read the original numbers to get new ones.
new jets needles , inlet need and seat, are recommended..
the throttle valve is normal. the screw (bullet) can be renew with a drill and piece of sandpaper.
please remember to clean all passages in carb as best as possible.. little pieces of wire in holes to dislodge anything stuck is a good idea.
for the broken white 90 go looking around sled dealers to get replacements..may take a bit.
if the carb you have has two vent lines those go up almost over top of carb and down opposite side of carb through the little steel holders on the float bolt screws.. the holders usually go towards engine on this type of carb. yes there is also a third holder for the line from bowl to power jet.
the little caps for floats are not completely nessary for carb operation as in running they never hit them.. caps are to hold floats when carb is fliped upside down for assembly.

wow thanks for taking the time to write all that up guys. The white stuff was wet when I first opened the carn yesterday then dried on... The stuff just rubs off. Also last night I spoke with the guy I bought the engine from and had him throw in his carbs too. Sounded like at least one of them was real nice the other not so good...But maybe I can make 2 good carbs out of these four. As for the jets I'll get them from PU, I know a few people that work there.
