I have been working on putting this machine (1976 /400) back together as it was apart when I got it and the motor is from another 1976/400 . This drive belt is way too tight from the drive clutch to the driven clutch. It’s tight enough that off the ground it will roll the track at idle and on the ground it heats the inside of the belt on the drive clutch to the point it heats up and drags the motor down . It’s a 340/22 reed engine with a factory comet clutch and the belt I have is Dayco HP3001.
I loosened all the engine bolts but it didn’t make much difference and I thought maybe the motor mounts were on wrong ( the motor plate is on top of the cross bars ) From everything I have seen it looks to be the correct belt ?
