air box
air box
can anyone out there get me a picture of an airbox off of an 80 or 81 sportfire? Mine didn't have one on it when i got it and i don't know what i'm looking for. It has been suggested to me that I buy a pod filter from dennis kirk. Do you have to re-jet the carb to do this? Help!

air box
Hi Guys,
The Trail and Sportfire use different air boxs. The Sport unit is thinner than the Trailfire box. I am not sure if the larger Trailfire box fits into to the Sportfire, as the motors are different. The Sport "T-7" is probably a little wider than the Trail's "T-1" motor.
Also, the Sportfire uses a "power jet" carb, and should not be run without the air box since the power jet circuit needs a slight vaccum at the carb inlet to draw fuel out the the fuel bowl.
If you decide to use an aftermarket air inlet, you would need to check your jetting at WOT so you do not run lean and burn a piston.
Good luck with your sled,
