I had some problems with my 76 340 cyclone this past season. It appears that when starting it when it is cold it shoots too much gas in the cylinders and floods it. Does not do this when it is warm(or I say it starts). I first thought it was fouled plugs, but changed them and it still did it. I can get it running but takes longer(by pulling the plugs). This sled was always an easy starter. Whats your thoughts? Thanks

Kevin,
When you are first starting it, do you have the choke on and NO THROTTLE?
The choke could be set incorrectly.
The needle/seat in the carb could be dirty or worn allowing the carb to flood.
The ignition system could be weak or bad plugs.

I do not even use the choke and it floods out. Good Spark, And I have switched plugs several times. But when it is warm it will start with no problem.

Kevin,
Another thought, the diaphram is bad in the fuel pump and letting the crankcase fill with fuel overnight. If the impluse line is clear tubbing, you should be able to see if it is full gas. If you have a shut-off valve, clear the gas out of the cylinders, fire up the engine until warm then shut if off and close the valve. Try restarting the engine the next day.
If you do not have a valve, pinch off the line with a pair of vise-grips.

I bet that is it. I will put an in-line shut off valve. Because I only have problems when i go to start it when its cold and that is usually a few days later. Thanks
