Just wondering if I need to use this long skinny plate (runs the length of the carbide) when I put ski skins on the sled. What is its purpose?
I bought a pair of Polaris ski skins and it doesnt say anything in the installation instructions about using this "spacer" with the skins.
Thanks,
Eric

Oh ok.
So if a spacer is needed it will be included with the carbides?
I bought some new carbides so I will see what the installation instructions say.

Eric, I'm not really clear on which Polaris sled you have or what exactly it is that you describe as a spacer. However, I'm guessing that you bought a set of EZ-Steer Polaris wear rods. I attached a pic showing an EZ-Steer carbide with it's backer plate in the lower part of the pic and a standard Polaris full length rod at the top of the pic. If you have the EZ-Steer rods, you must use the backer plate (which I think might be the thing you describe as a spacer). It goes immediately above the wear rod and under the ski (or ski skin). Depending on which EZ-Steer kit you got, the studs may or may not be long enough to go through a thick ski skin. The idea of the EZ-Steer rods is to give a lighter feel to the steering and also to reduce darting. But personally, I don't care for them and prefer to use a moderately aggresive full length carbide without the backer plate.

Polaris Questions
Well I have a 95 Indy XLT touring.
I took the old ski skins off along with the carbides (which were the full length ones). But they used the backer plate with the full length carbides. So I am not sure what the previous owner was thinking??
The new carbides I bought are the regular full length kind. So I will install the new ski skins along with the new carbides, with NO backer plate.
Thanks!
