Notice the Deere interest?
Just a personal opinion that the interest in Deere vintage sleds seems to have grown remarkably in the last year.....other brand loyalists are now adding Deere's to their collections and seeking increased Deere sled information and facts. In addition the sleds are getting greater respect for their performance and racing history. Nice to see! JRC

I was thinking the same thing. Gotta get as much green as I can before they go the way of two cylinder JD tractors.

JRC I agree with alot of what your saying. They will probably never have the presence at shows that cat,doo and polaris have. However I do know a die hard vintage skidoo guy that has added a deere to his collection and another personal freint who has atleast 100 vintage cats who has a few deeres also. I think alot of people would be purprised with the 00 and x sleds if they had a chance to ride 1.I know when I bought my 1st 300 I was amazed how well it turned and handled compared to any of the other vintage sleds I had driven previously. I can honestly say for mid mount sleds the deeres have the best steering and are the least tippy of any early 70s sled Ive driven.

Notice the Deere interest?
I know 3 guys that have Doos and Laris and Cats that have small to large collection and now 1 has obtained a Deere. The other 2 are actively looking now.....but not for "S" sleds or Dators. They wanta a "00" and "X" sled because of sentimental from pasted on Uncle and Grandfather had these sleds.
Also 1 guy that has a collection of about 12 garden tractors has just obtained 1 last week. Beautiful original 400 that is in stunning original condition !!
(I'll try to remember to get a pix posted of it )
Let the reign of DEERE games begin !!
Thanx Dave

Jon,
I agree, it's been a good combination of things lately.
All the publicity the HOF induction of Robert helped bring to the Deere sleds front and center. No doubt that was a huge push. Add to that CJ's warm up artical in SnoTrax about ETD. There also seems to be more nastalga around the I-500 and Cross Country racing too.
All this is playing out well for Deere sleds. Really, for years around here (NY) I could go to a sled show and be the ONLY Deere there! No kidding! Boy, did I take some ribbing occasionally, especially if the Rupp guys were drinking (Sodus show in 2000, grrr). (I was Deere when Deere wasn't cool!?!)
A few years before the HOF event, I donated an 81 Liquifire to the Great Eastern Whiteout to be raffled off for charity. That made Deere the Featured sled of the largest show in the east. I thought we made it big time with about 23 Deere sleds on display. Not only was it a good turn out from jdsleds members including Aaron Z, Tim K, Freatman, The Watersboy, Matt, etc, but here were a ton of JD collectors I've never met. I was also given the honor of picking the "Best of Show: Featured Sled" and awarded that honor to Andy Duschen (sp?) with the cleanest restored 78 Spitfire I've ever seen.
I even got interviewed and was on the news with my Rouch Racing JD jacket on. I thought that show was as good as it gets until the HOF event.
Just this year alone at the Great Eastern Whiteout I saw around 4 or 5 green Spitfires, plus a bunch of other Deere's.
Not sure what single factor is raising awareness of the Deere sleds, but its a good thing. Matt should also get a share of the credit for making and maintaining one the best brand specific vintage web sites on the net. Making the site interactive with a Q & A section has deffinately helped to keep this site popular and growing since it's inception.
Now we have ETD guys, factory engineers, I-500 independants sharing stories and information with all us collectors.
It's a good thing...!
